IDEA
Red Bull asked Aircards to produce 2 experiences to promote their association with the NBA player Pascal Siakam. We were asked to produce an arcade machine and a mobile web based game that incorporated the aspects of basket ball and Red bull.
CHALLENGES
The arcade machine would be a ground up build and would require all the hardware and software to be bespoke for this experience. We also wanted to use some advanced screen technology for the display to add another layer of uniqueness to the experience. This hardware would be a first to be used in this way so it would require weeks of testing to perfect the desired look.SOLUTION
We used Unity as the base for the build in order to allow us to build the game once and tweak the output for mobile and a PC build. A simple running game was the base with Pascal as the runner incorporating signature moves for dunk and spin. We also dropped Red Bull promotional material around the scene to link in with the sponsorship theme. We went with a high end display called a looking glass that gave the user a 3D perspective on the scene. The 3D capabilities of this screen are shown in the development video below and clearly show the perspective of the buildings changing as a user moves side to side. Added to this we used a USB arcade controller for the buttons and used LED strips controlled via DMX to surround the arcade device. The lighting was controlled from Unity and changes colour at key points in the game.As an added bonus we also gave the user of the mobile experience the ability to scan a Red Bull can when launching the game for an extra bonus.
