IDEA

Working with Aircards we were asked to produce a experience to launch the new Audible full-cast Harry Potter audio books.  The experience would need to be launched from a QR code printed on the front cover of the metro newspapers.

CHALLENGES

The first challenge was going to be working around the copyright issues surrounding the Harry Potter books themselves. Audible were very clear that the experience could not in any way show content that could be linked directly the series of books. So imagery and names would all have to be generic and the only licensed content we would have access to is the Audio itself. We also had to be aware that the experience was going to be accessed by commuters on the move, so any experience we created would need to allow for the very poor connectivity they would have on there devices.

SOLUTION

Using the newspaper itself as the launch mechanism via the QR code meant we would know for sure that the users had the newspaper in front of them. With this as the core idea we used the newspaper design as image targets used to trigger content. With the aid of 8th wall we overlaid magical content in AR onto the newspaper along with excerpts from the audio related to that character. The final step users could choose a key to unlock there exclusive chapter of the book. At this stage the user could download the the chapter for listening to later should they lose there internet connection.
