IDEA

To bring the concept of the world’s biggest shower to Times Square New York. The idea behind this was to use some of the biggest advertising boards in the world, with 16,000+ square feet of total digital video facing 4 directions. Then coincide the advertising of Dove’s new shower product with a real life rain shower in Times Square.

CHALLENGES

To calculate the most realistic time to show the advert and sync this advertising exactly to a rain shower.

SOLUTION

You may remember me experimenting with a rain sensor linked to an Aduino a while back. This was the first step in a long process of seeing what was realistically going to give us the best control over the billboards in Times square. The proof of concept worked and was sold to the client, however this was only 1 step in the final bill boards design. We also integrated local weather data and crowd sourced information data to change the bill boards advertising. Instead of just triggering the Dove final advert we also displayed a set of build up adverts controlled by a weather API. This displayed messages like "Can you feel the rain", "Is there a shower on the way?", ect.

TECHNOLOGIES USED

Video editing, HTML5, Arduino, Dark Sky weather API

RESULT

The final billboard went live during the Month of August on a select couple of day where rain was most predicted. Thank fully on the day it did rain and all the tech worked well.
