IDEA
The Diageo Archive based in Edinburgh asked Aircards to update an old panorama website walkthrough version of the archive to bring it more up to date and add additional new elements to the experience. Along with this a VR walk through experience would be developed that could be used at trade shows to bring the experience to people in an even more immersive way.
CHALLENGES
The archive is a an extensive collection spanning 6 rooms. It would require a lot of new higher quality panoramas to be taken an aligned in 3D space to build both the website version and the VR version. Along with this location of over 100 key points of information would need to be plotted in 3D in order to make sure the user was able to access the correct hotspot overlaid in the correct place.SOLUTION
3D panorama images were taken of the new Liquid library in Edinburgh and color corrected to match any existing images that could be used. Then using Unity a new application was built that could be exported for both VR and the web saving time building the application twice. A database of all the key elements that needed to be included was developed along with its location in the 3D world. Finally all the elements were combined to produce a VR walkthrough experience that allowed the user to navigate around the archive and click and explore selective elements in each room. The experience was then loaded onto Quest headsets allowing Diageo to take the experience and use it at trade shows all over the world. The update website version was then added to the Diageo site enabling anyone to explore the vast archive at the Edinburgh location.Later updates were added to the website enabling users to take curated experiences as well as the option to free roam around.
