IDEA

Asahi approached the agency Live and Breath with a proposal to build an app to help promote the Asahi Super Dry. The idea behind the app would be to have free pints located around the UK that users had to discover through the app. The user would need to be at a specific GPS location, then locate the hidden pint using an Augmented reality mode built into the app. The users would then be able to use the codes they received to claim free pints at participating venues. The agency working with Inition and myself to then build this app.

CHALLENGES

The app would need to work on all the latest mobile devices that supported AR both Android and IOS. The app was going to need to use GPS location services as well as Camera overlays and local storage. It would also need to communicate with a third party database who would be distributing the codes. It was also going to need 'Single Sign on' built into it to let people log into the app from Google / Twitter /and Facebook.

SOLUTION

I used Unity as the base for the app as this allowed the greatest flexibility with the build. It also meant it could built once and distribute to both IOS and Android platforms. The application used a number of third party plugins to help with Single Sign on and Map display as well as bespoke code to deal with the AR mode and displaying of pints and there locations. We also used dynamically generated QR codes for displaying the codes users would need to show bartenders to claim the pints. Finally users were given the option of taking a photo within the app to share with friends, as well the option to share the pints they have won among other friends.
