At the London AV Awards, Inition was approached to provide entertainment for the guests before and after the ceremony. The brief was to create a suit in the style of steampunk that would be worn by an actor and display a simple Simon says style game on a tablet he would be wearing. Additional tablet would also be a available around the venue for distribution to the guests. A leader board would also be linked to the tablets and shown on a large TV screen inside the venue.

CHALLENGES

To create a game from scratch that would incorporate the style of steampunk, but be playable quickly enough to have a short turnaround for guests. The tablets was also need to be connected over Wifi to another application running on a separate PC that would be collating scores and displaying them on the TV screen.

SOLUTION

I built 2 applications using Unity, one that was published out as an android app for the LG tablets and another Windows app that controlled the leader board. The game itself was built completely from scratch in Unity using elements designed by the in house designers at Inition . It incorporated the classic simon says style of game play where guest had to listen and watch a animation sequence then repeat it back by tapping onto the relevant areas. Scores when then transmitted over the local wifi using unity's network features to the leader board app. This app stored all the scores in a local JSON file collating them in highest order for display on the large TV in real time.

The evening was a great success and as the pictures show that tablets were widely used throughout the event.
