IDEA

Bacardi’s Angles envy brand worked with eyekandy to create a promotion for the product that would incorporate the sustainability of planting trees across the United states. The concept was largely dictated by an existing campaign named “Toast the Trees”. The experience needed to allow users to plant a virtual tree in there neighbourhood, this data would then be collated across the whole of the state, with the state planting the largest number of virtual trees winning the campaign and real trees would be planted in place of the virtual ones.

CHALLENGES

We would need to track the users location via the phones GPS in order to locate there position. We would then need to incorporate an SLAM system in order for the user to plant the virtual tree and see it in Augmented Reality. We would then need to build a system to display the data on a map and leader board.

SOLUTION

Multiple technologies were used in the site build, from simple HTML pages for the displaying of leader boards to complex Playcanvas builds incorporating 8th walls SLAM tracking for the AR placement. Along with this the Map box was used to pull the GPS location data and display it on a user friendly customised map.

TECHNOLOGIES USED

HTML5, CSS3, Javascript, Mapbox, Playcanvas, 8th Wall

RESULT

The experience launched across the United states with 100's of users planting virtual trees. The client was extremely happy with the uptake, with the project being live for 3 months. It is now in a further development stage to launch again for the Canada market. The link below will take you to a video showing a full walkthrough of the experience.
